POSITION TITLE: Behavior Specialist
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Special Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.
BEGINNING: October 2024
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in related fields such as Social Work, Psychology, Education, or Mental Health Services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Expertise in the field and knowledge of emotional disturbance and/or other challenging behaviors.
- Experience working in public schools.
- Experience with analyzing behaviors that could facilitate Functional Behavior Assessments and behavior plans.
- Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.
- May collaborate with support staff to develop and implement, with appropriate district approvals, management and/or behavioral interventions.
- Maintain appropriate records, assist, and provide guidance for teachers and other staff in the implementation for behavioral interventions.
- May provide coaching and professional development to staff on behavior interventions and supports.
- Participate in planning, placement, and/or parent meetings on an as-needed basis.
- May train staff and/or family members directly on implementation of behavior support plans.
- Collect and analyze student behavioral data in order to provide a more prescriptive approach to behavior interventions.
- Build relationships with students during one-on-one and/or small group sessions - by providing nurturing, caring and positive reinforcement for students who need adult recognition and attention in order to achieve positive feelings and self-worth.
- Monitor and observe student behaviors inside and outside the classroom setting.
- Respond and support student behavioral crisis situations.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Non-violent crisis intervention and support (CPI) certified.
- Participate in the evaluation and revision of behavior plans.
- Ability to work with an ethnically and educationally diverse group of students, parents, and staff.
- Maintains prompt and regular attendance
- Provide research based target interventions and monitor progress, to support the integration of behavior supports.
- Other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting and kneeling.
