POSITION TITLE: Hourly Tutor

 

FLSA: Non-Exempt

 

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Programs, ESOL Coordinator and Building Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly position approximately twenty hours a week (two to four days per week, hours and days are flexible). This is a grant-funded position—contingent on available funding. 

 

BEGINNING: August, 2024

 

LOCATION: Northside High School and Darby Middle School.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Holds current Teaching Certificate
• Preferred ESL K-12 Endorsement
• Has a strong understanding of elementary curriculum, instruction, and intervention
• Has a general understanding of technology
• Is culturally aware and sensitive to the needs of newcomer students
• Works well with children and adults

ROLE

1. Support newcomers, secondary age students through one on one or small group intervention 
2. Provide lessons for success in math and literacy skills 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Plan instructional activities in the area of math and literacy for individual and small groups of students.
• Utilize cultural, literature and intervention materials to work with small groups. 
• Keep accurate records.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Remain sensitive to the needs of diverse student populations.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
