POSITION TITLE: Indian Education Support Tutor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly position - approximately 20-30 hours / week
LOCATION: Parker Center
*This is a grant-funded position—contingent on available funding.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Holds current Arkansas Teacher License ($25/hour) or has completed 60 college credit hours ($17/hour).
- Has a strong understanding of elementary curriculum, instruction, and intervention.
- Has a general understanding of technology.
- Is culturally aware and sensitive to the needs of Native American students.
- Works well with children and adults.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Support Native American students through small group intervention.
- Assist with identification of Native American students.
- Provide lessons for cultural awareness of federally recognized tribes.
- Under the direction of the principal and classroom teacher, plan instructional intervention for individual Native American students and small groups.
- Utilize cultural literature and intervention materials to work with small groups.
- Keep accurate records.
- Meet periodically with Indian Education staff.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Remain sensitive to the needs of diverse student populations.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally, and endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, squatting, and the occasional reaching above the head or shoulders.
- Attend training and professional development to remain current in intervention strategies and cultural awareness.
- Other duties as assigned.
