Position Title: PEAK Arts Visual Arts Teacher

 

FLSA: Exempt

 

Reports To: Director of Career Education and District Innovation

 

Beginning: August, 2024

 

Terms of Employment: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date. 

  

Qualifications

  • AR licensure required.
  • Certification in Art.
  • Experience preferred. 

Courses 

  • Visual Arts Foundations I-IV, Visual Art Appreciation, Art History, Studio Art 2-D and/or Studio Art 3-D (and any other Arkansas Visual Arts Approved Coursework).
  • Specialty Areas: drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, art appreciation, art history.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaboration with Staff and Families:
    • Deliver daily, in person instruction to PEAK Arts Students in grades 9-12.
    • Teach the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum.
    • Collaborate weekly on lesson design, standards-alignment, and course progressions with PEAK Visual Arts Teacher(s).
    • Participate in ongoing professional learning to support constructivist lesson design, graduate profile integration, and multi-year portfolio and exhibition development.
    • Teach AP coursework if necessary.
    • Communicate with parents through a variety of means and within effective timeframes.
    • Maintain art inventory records.
    • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Collaboration with Students: Act as an internship supervisor. 
    • Act as a student portfolio defense model and exhibition mentor.
    • Direct planning and supervision of portfolio defense model/exhibition.
    • Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and engagement required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
    • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
    • Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their work-based learning situations.
    • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive community displays such as art gallery, art walk, etc..
    • Provide guidance to students and parents when difficult situations occur at his/her internship site.
    • Match student career interest with work-based learning activities.
    • Facilitate employment skills workshops: job interviewing, job application, and resume writing.
    • Observe and evaluates pupils' work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
    • Accompany students on field trips to museums or art galleries.
  • Collaboration with Business:
    • Collaborate with college and business partners on real-world application of arts standards and meaningful work-based learning experiences.
    • Serve as a member of the PEAK Arts Advisory Board.
  • Recruitment:
    • Assist with recruiting future students.
    • Promote pathway programs to community, non-profit and private sectors.
  • Carries out duty as assigned, including after-school or before-school duties
  • Participates in grade level collaboration, planning, as part of PLCs, as well as school committees
  • Supervises students on recess, bus, during before and after school duty, on field trips, extracurricular events, and in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance 
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others
  • Maintains emotional control under stress
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS  

  • Has the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Teachers could be asked to teach at various locations to serve the needs of students.
